Delivery Formats
AQ and ABQ courses at UOIT are offered in one of three formats.
Additional Qualification and Additional Basic Qualifications courses at UOIT are offered in one of three formats. It is advisable to carefully read each course description to find out about its delivery method.
Please see below for a description of the three delivery formats.
-
In-class
This is a course whereby the instructor and candidates meet in a classroom and conduct the entire course in a face-to-face environment. While some assignments or activities may require the candidate to use a computer to research information or prepare a project, the mode of delivering the majority of the course content is through classroom activities where all candidates are present. As of September 2008, all classes will be held at our new Faculty of Education Building, 11 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa.
-
Online:
This is a course whereby the instructor and candidates do not meet face-to-face. The entire course is held online with participants frequently logging into a learning management system (LMS). UOIT uses WebCT as its LMS. The instructor posts questions for discussion, assignments and other activities in the LMS and participants interact with each other through e-mail, discussion boards and possibly synchronous chat areas. Participants are expected to have a computer with the ability to connect to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider (ISP), become familiar with the LMS environment and do frequent activities such as e-mailing, downloading documents and searching on the Internet. UOIT does not provide participants with a computer for online courses.
-
Blended:
This is a course whereby the instructor uses a combination of face-to-face and online environments to deliver the course. Participants might attend a class on campus for a few weeks and then spend a few weeks online completing tasks, discussing topics and submitting materials. Another format for blended learning might be meeting face-to-face at the beginning of the course for a few times and again at the end, with the majority of the course being held online during the middle part of it. Blended learning takes advantage of the benefits that both face-to-face and online learning can provide to participants. UOIT does not provide participants with a computer for blended courses. The face-to-face component of the course will be held at our new Faculty of Education Building, 11 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa.
