Course Description
This course is designed to enable candidates to acquire a detailed knowledge of Ministry policy related to Physical and Health Education and an overview of related subject guidelines. Emphasis will be placed on the principles of fitness as an essential quality of Physical and Health Education and the promotion of Daily Quality Physical Education. This course will assist the candidate in the development of curriculum related activities that enhance literacy and communication skills while promoting the virtues of Student Success. In addition the course will emphasize the ability to develop remedial, regular and advanced programs in Health and Physical Education and to evaluate these programs as a component of student achievement. Candidates will have an opportunity to gain the ability to use both print and non-print teaching materials. Attention will be given to the latest research in the subject and related methodologies and technology to promote Physical and Health Education.

Prerequisites:
Official transcript(s) with original seal and/or signature confirming the following:
i) A Bachelor's degree from an acceptable university showing successful completion of a minimum of 20 full (or equivalent) courses;
ii) Nine* full (or equivalent) university courses in the teaching subject for which qualification is sought, with a minimum "B" average overall.
*The academic requirements for a Combined Honour Specialist (in two subject areas) are different: a minimum "B" average in at least 14 full courses in two subject areas for which the candidate seeks qualification, with no fewer than 6 full courses in each subject area.
Notes:
1) For transcripts not in English a certified translated copy is required.
A Certificate of Teaching Experience must be signed by a supervisory officer, confirming two years of teaching experience completed after teacher's certification, one year in
Ontario in the subject area.
* The Ontario College of Teachers defines "supervisory official" as the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent of the school board for a teacher employed by a Board of Education. (A principal or headmaster is not recognized in this capacity).
For a teacher employed by a private school, the "supervisory official" is the Ministry of Education official (e.g. Education Officer) appointed to provide supervisory services to the school.
