FSL, Part One is designed to provide certification to teachers in a manner that provides relevant, professional development that will equip teachers for the challenging roles they play in the current FSL classroom. FSL, Part One will be of interest to teachers who wish to acquire knowledge and skills in French as a Second Language education: Core, Extended and Immersion, grades one through twelve.
Prerequisites:
1. Copy of OCT Certificate of Qualification
2. All FSL applicants are required to complete a French language proficiency test (written and oral) prior to admission into the FSL AQ course.
Test Information:
The pre-admission test has been designed to evaluate your ability to understand, speak, read and write in French. It is structured in three parts:
1. Comprehension: Listening to a tape, reading text and answering questions.
2. Written: Cloze test (filling in the blanks with the right word, composing short memos, faxes, notes, reports, letter to a parent).
3. Oral: Interview with a teacher, may include two other students or one-on-one dialogue, (approx. 15 minutes duration).
No sample test is provided. Length of time, format of oral testing, subject to change at the discretion of the instructor.
About the Test:
Successful completion of this test is valid for 3 years.
:: The test is two hours in length.
:: Dictionaries are not permitted.
:: To pass the test you need to achieve at least a B on each part.
:: Candidates need to bring one piece of photo-identification, (e.g., driver's license).
Test Dates & Locations:
Tests are scheduled in correspondence with a specific session. For example, candidates taking a summer AQ French course must take the summer pre-admission test
Winter Session Test: Wednesday, January 6, 2010 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Test Fee: $50.00 Credit or Debit only
On the day of the test, it is important to arrive at the specified registration time to ensure the test starts on time. Candidates who have not paid for the test or who have not registered for the appropriate AQ course will not be permitted to take the test.
Exemptions:
Candidates who meet the criteria for an exemption must apply for an exemption at least 5 days before the test date, otherwise they must write the test.
Criteria for French test exemption
1. If you have successfully completed a pre-admission test in French at UOIT within the last 3 years, you are not required to retake the test.
2. If you have attended a Francophone University, such as Montreal, Laval, Sudbury, Laurentian and Ottawa, where the language of instruction was French for all university courses completed, you may apply for an exemption from writing the test.
3. Proficiency testing results from other institutions are not considered for exemptions.
4. Admission offers from other institutions are not considered for exemptions.
Requesting an exemption
Candidates who believe that they may be eligible for exemption must contact the Faculty of Education at least 5 business days prior to the stated test date with a copy of their applicable university transcripts.
You are NOT EXEMPTED unless you have been explicitly informed by UOIT.
