The AQ course Reading, Specialist - Part 3 provides candidates with an opportunity to draw on their knowledge and understanding of the foundations, vision and underlying philosophy of effective reading instruction. The course is open to candidates who meet the entry requirements identified in Regulation 184/97.
Critical to reading instruction is the ability of teachers to ensure positive, interactive learning experiences for all students.
Teachers are, or become skilled at combining their knowledge of child and adolescent development and learning with their understanding of effective reading instruction. The course is based on an in-depth knowledge of the teaching and acquisition of reading skills and includes a focus on leadership skills. Critical attention is given to current research and curriculum design that incorporates the principles of language acquisition and literacy development. In particular, the course approaches literacy from the perspective of leadership and the school-wide program. Candidates will have opportunities to reflect, communicate and apply their learning through practical experiences at the school, board or provincial level.
Prerequisites:
1. OCT Certificate of Qualification
2. Successful completion of Reading Part 2
3. Proof that the qulification is noted on the Ontario College of Teacher's Certificate of Qualification.
4. Evidence of at least two years of successful teaching experience in Ontario, including at least one school year of experience in Ontario in the subject listed above, certified by the appropriate supervisory officer by submitting the Experience Form below.
