This page will be updated regularly.
I have sent my Graduate Response Form and Deposit to the Graduate Studies office, but I can't register for courses.
It may take several days to a week for your form to be received, processed and an account created for you. Until this process is complete, you will not be able to register for courses. If you sent payment in separately, then the payment must also be received prior to account activation. If it has been more than a week since you faxed your form back or two weeks if you mailed it, then please contact the Office of Graduate Studies at 905.721.868 ext. 2695.
How many courses can/do I have to take in each semester?
You may take as many or as few courses in each term as your personal situation allows for, as long as you finish your courses within the allotted time frame (3 years for the Graduate Diploma and 6 years forth Masters). The exception to the above is for part time students. Part time students are allowed a maximum of two courses per term.
Some students will opt to take a semester off if their work or personal situation would make studying at that time difficult, some will steadily take one or two each term until finished while others may decide to study full time each term. Often, which courses are available a particular term are a deciding factor.
Is it possible to change from part-time to full-time status or vice versa?
Yes, you can change your status. You must fill out a change of status form (available on the Forms page) and send it to the Office of Graduate studies.
When and where are the courses held?
All in-person classes (or the in class portion of hybrid courses) will beheld at the Faculty of Education building which is located at 11 Simcoe St. North in downtown Oshawa. Please note that the Faculty of Education is NOT on the main UOIT campus.
July 2009 courses will be held during the day, while any fall (2009),winter (2010) or spring (2010) hybrid courses will be held in the evenings. Most courses will be available in an online format, but may have some in-person classes.
What days do I have to be physically present (in-class)?
For both July 2009 courses, you will be required to be in-class on July 6th, 7th, 30th and 31st from 9 am to 4pm.
All fall 2009 (September-December), winter 2010 (January -April) and spring 2010 (May & June) courses, there will be no scheduled in-class dates. Should any individual instructor and/or class decide that an in-class day would be helpful, then one can be decided on at that point. If that should happen, then students can attend "digitally" if in-person attendance is not possible.
What about the online courses or portions of a course? How does that work?
Some of this time will be spent in online meetings or collaboration (using AdobeConnect - logins and training will be provided to you)
with your professor, your teammates or both. It is expected that this online time will occur during the scheduled class time, unless other arrangements have been made by the professor.
Time will also be spent on WebCT completing assignments, wiki's, blog's, etc as well as on the internet and virtual libraries doing research.
How do I register for courses? Do I have to take certain ones first?
