Alumni Job Experiences
As of our last survey (November 2007) 86.7% of our 2006 graduating class and 45% (and growing) of our 2007graduating class were employed. These are exciting statistics! Once our next survey has been completed (this coming November), we will have statistics on our 2008 graduating class.
In this area, we will share some of our graduates' experiences in the world of teaching.
"Life at UOIT was short, but highly eventful. There was a vast amount of material covered over the year, which was also modeled by the professors. However, what I believed to be highly eventful and fast paced was nothing in comparison to having a full teaching course load. In the last waking moments of August 2006, I was hired by the Hamilton District School Board, and hit the ground running on the first day of school one week later. The courses I was assigned were my dream courses: Grade 11 Computer Engineering, Grade 10 Foundations of Mathematics, and a split Grade 11/12 Computer and Information Science.
Due to the wonderful education I received at UOIT, my first couple of days were manageable, but still challenging. From coloured memos to energetic students, I found that the days were filled with endless paperwork, planning, and a great deal of coffee. So hearing all of this, one starts to wonder: "Why did I choose this path in the first place?" Well, if you ever have a student tell you that you are their favourite teacher, and that you are the only reason they attend school sometimes, you will certainly understand why."
