Sian (pronounced Shawn) is a retired elementary principal and current member of the OCT. Sian has a broad background in elementary education having taught Kindergarten to grade 3 and 7 (regular class), grades 7, 8, & 9 math and science, Special Education Resource K - 8, a Specific Learning Disabilities class 4-6, and English as a Second Language K-8. Sian has an undergraduate degree in Psychology , and Special Education and Guidance Specialists (B.Ed.) from York University.
Although Sian began her teaching career in North York, she spent most of her career in Simcoe County, in the Alliston-Stayner area. She was vice-principal in three schools before becoming principal of Tosorontio Central Public School in 1997, where she remained until her retirement in 2003.
As a school administrator, Sian particularly interested in continuity and consistency in literacy programming and student assessment/evaluation, in 'hands on' opportunities for students in math and science/technology and in differentiated learning for students with special needs/learning styles.
After retirement, Sian worked as a part-time vice-principal at Canadian Forces Base Borden, and worked in a support role on the Building Connections project at Durham College. Sian is very enthusiastic about working with teacher candidates again.
