Before joining the Faculty of Education on a part-time basis, Mary Anne O'Leary served in numerous capacities as an educator in the province of Ontario. She has worked with various school boards (Ottawa, Northumberland Durham, Waterloo and Toronto Catholic) as teacher, guidance counsellor, department head, vice-principal, founding principal and supervisory officer.
As the founding principal of Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School in Scarborough, Ontario, Mary Anne introduced Direction 2000, a progressive program approach which features individualized programming, self-paced learning, flexible entry and exit points, teacher advisors for all students and a differentiated staffing model.
During her thirteen years as a supervisory officer with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, her portfolio included secondary schools, elementary schools, system review and information technology.
During 2001 and 2002, Mary Anne served as Executive Director of the Metropolitan Toronto Catholic Education Foundation, the charitable organization of the Toronto Catholic District School Board.
Most recently, Mary Anne worked with The Learning Partnership as Program Manager for the 2004 Technology Innovation Awards that recognized and celebrated innovative educators in schools, colleges and universities throughout Ontario who have used technology to create and advance interactive learning environments.
Mary Anne has also served as treasurer of Women in Educational Administration, Ontario and has chaired the Editorial Board of the Journal of Women in Educational Administration, Ontario. She has authored articles on Violence Prevention and Assessment policies.
Mary Anne is currently teaching Analysis & Management of Classroom Behaviour for both the Primary/Junior and Intermediate/Senior programs.
