John joined UOIT as a Faculty Advisor late in the fall of 2005. While still a Faculty Advisor, he is also a part-time instructor of PJ Art and IS Visual Art. After retiring from the Toronto District School Board in 1999, John maintained his interest in Visual Art by conducting highly successful watercolour classes for mature students. John still gets great delight in working with classes at various levels in painting and hand-building with clay.
While with the Scarborough Board of Education which eventually became T.D.S.B, John was seconded, four years, to the Scarborough Board in the areas of Social Environmental Studies, History and Geography due to his skills in conducting in-services, workshops, and in creating curriculum in a wide variety of disciplines. While at the Scarborough Board office, he completed integrated curriculum for the Metro Toronto School Board, the Superintendents' Curriculum Committee of Ontario under the leadership of Professor Susan Drake of O.I.S.E., Junior Achievement Association of Ontario, and the Canadian branch of the United Nations.
Besides teaching all grade levels, from 2 to 8, John has also administered a Multicultural Leadership Camp, grades 7-12, for two years while with the Scarborough Board of Education. He also administered Visual Arts Schools for the Gifted in Visual Art, and successfully ran summer programmes for Visual Arts from K-9. Also for several summers, he also instructed at Camp Walden's Adult Art Camp.
John has maintain his interest and connections with the exchange programme between Scarborough and the City of Sagamihara, Japan. At present, he still delights in conducting tours to Japan in his spare time and giving people their tour of a lifetime.
