Diana Petrarca is one of the founding members of the Faculty of Education at UOIT. She came to UOIT from the Durham District School Board where she has been a school teacher since 1991. She has also taught online Additional Qualifications special education courses for teachers for Queen's University.
For her first three years at UOIT, Diana had a dual role as the practicum coordinator and as an instructor for the Faculty of Education. As the Practicum Coordinator, Diana supervised and administered placements in grade 7 to 12 classrooms where students complete their field experience in order to meet the requirements of the Bachelor of Education program. Diana also taught B.Ed. courses in individual needs and diversity, classroom management, communications, field experience and introduction to teaching. With the addition of the new Primary/Junior program in August 2006, Diana will be a full time instructor within this new program.
Diana obtained her undergraduate degree in Science at the University of Western Ontario and completed her Bachelor of Education at York University. Because of her interest in special needs, she completed her M.Ed. part time at OISE/UT with a focus on Human Development and Applied Psychology, specializing in special education. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies with research interests in using learning objects to support associate teachers as they mentor teacher candidates.
In her spare time, Diana enjoys running, yoga and traveling to exotic and not-so-exotic destinations.
