Consecutive Education
UOIT offers two programs in consecutive education:
- a one-year Bachelor of Education degree program for teaching in the Primary and Junior Divisions (Kindergarten to Grade 6)
- a one-year Bachelor of Education degree program for teaching in the Intermediate and Senior Divisions (Grades 7 - 12).
Graduates of the UOIT Bachelor of Education Program become qualified to teach in either the Primary/Junior(P/J) or the Intermediate/Senior (I/S) Divisions in Ontario schools.
Description of the Primary/Junior BEd Program
In the P/J program the emphasis is on preparing elementary school teacher candidates who are strong in the areas of science, mathematics and literacy, and who are skilled in the use of technologies.
In classes at the Faculty of Education you will develop your skills of critical thinking and problem-solving. The teacher educators at UOIT are skilled in multiple areas: they are skilled in subject expertise; they are skilled in pedagogy (the science of teaching) and they are skilled in technology. Graduates of the UOIT teacher education programs are highly-regarded in Ontario.
The laptop is integral to the Consecutive Education program and teacher candidates use information technology in a variety of ways to enhance theirl earning. The UOIT mobile learning environment provides the support you need to succeed with technology.
The university's BEd consecutive program isdesigned to meet all Ontario legislated requirements and incorporatesthe Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards for the TeachingProfession of the Ontario College of Teachers. Graduates will berecommended by the university to the Ontario College of Teachers forcertification to practice in the Ontario education system.
Description of the Intermediate/Senior BEd Program
In addition to building skills of pedagogy, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving, teacher candidates in the Intermediate/Senior divisions learn the skills they need to become outstanding secondary school teachers. UOIT graduates are highly thought-of for their strong curriculum and technology expertise.
The university's BEd program for Intermediate /Senior meets all of Ontario's requirements for teacher certification. Graduates are recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for certification to practice in Ontario's schools.
Teacher candidates in the Intermediate / Senior BEd program must take two of the following teaching subjects:
Biology
Chemistry
Computer Science
Dramatic Arts
English
General Science
Geography
Health and Physical Education
History
Mathematics
Physics
Visual Arts
