Admissions Process
We want you to apply to the BEd program at UOIT! It will offer you a unique, high-quality teacher education experience. Because the application process is competitive, however, meeting the minimum requirements (such as marks) does not guarantee you a spot in the program. Successful applicants to the program need to follow a series of steps for admission. Here is a step-by-step guide to assist you in the application process.
Applications for the 2010/11 Academic Year
Note: Applications officially open late September 2009 via the OUAC website.
1. Review your eligibility for the Bed program by reading the admission requirements.
2. By December 1, 2009: Apply to the UOIT BEd program through TEAS- the Teacher Education Application Service. TEAS opens in mid-September.
3. By December 1, 2009: Pay the fee for your TEAS application. Since UOIT's Supplemental Application fee is included in the total fee, you do not need to send any money to UOIT.
4. By December 1, 2009: Submit your UOIT Supplemental Application Package.
When you apply to the 2009-2010 BEd program at UOIT, you must complete both the TEAS application form and a UOIT Supplemental Package. Both are obtained through the Teacher Education Application Service (TEAS) at this website: http://www.ouac.on.ca/teas/
The supplemental package includes a personal profile and two references: one personal, and one academic. The Office of the Registrar at UOIT must receive your supplemental package by the date that the TEAS applications are also due. Please see the "Admissions" section of this website for information regarding the personal profile and reference letters.
5. If you are a student with a disability and you wish consideration for admission on the basis of your disability, you must follow the process outlined on the Centre for Students with Disabilities Applicant website, found at the following link: https://connect.uoit.ca/uoit/admission/swd.ezc
NOTE: All disability related documents must be sent to the UOIT Registrar's office within three weeks of application.
6. Interview: Some applicants will be invited to an interview at UOIT with principals and teachers from local school boards. On arrival, you will receive a case study and then you will discuss it in your interview. Note: You need to bring picture ID in order to participate
Interviews will take place on February 13th and 14th, 2010 at the Faculty of Education building in downtown Oshawa.
7. Your application and interview determine who receives an offer to the Bed program. Acceptances are mailed out during the first week of April. You may accept through the OUAC website starting the first week of April.
Those accepted will receive:
- Acceptance letter from the Registrar's Office outlining the terms of acceptance, dates to respond, and instructions for accepting through OUAC
- Steps for accepting your offer through the OUAC website
- UOIT accept URL
- Information page from UOIT Faculty of Education
Those not accepted will receive a letter of decline from the Registrar's Office.
**Please note that the BEd program at UOIT begins in mid-August.
