Q - What is unique about the program in the BEd year?
A - The BEd year will be different from any past learning experience. The focus of the program is not on "getting grades" but on building competency as a teacher. Some assignments will be individual and some will be group work, but most assignments will be somewhat practical. Assignments are more frequent, shorter and there are few papers assigned. Also, there is less of a need for textbooks, as this is a laptop program.
Assessment in the program is based on numerous assignments as well as professionalism. There are few, if any, tests or exams in the program.
Assignments are not given during the Field Experience time periods.
Q - What is the approximate cost of text books?
A - There are few textbooks in the program as it is primarily a laptop-based program.
Q - What are Program Start Days?
A - Program Start Days are the orientation. They take place in mid-August. Key information is provided, laptops are assigned and teacher candidates receive essential laptop training sessions.
Q - What is the program on Fridays?
A - Fridays are either Professional Development days or reflection days. Please refer to your calendar for the most current information. Friday PD days may be half days or full days.
Q - What is the classroom/university dress code?
A - The "dress code" for the Faculty of Education is to dress appropriately and in a way that reflects positively on you as a teacher candidate.
Q - Do we have access to gym facilities on the main campus?
A - Yes
Q - Has the location for the international teaching program for 2009 been decided?
A - The international placement has not been determined for 2009. It will be announced if this determination has been made.
Q - How do we log on to MyCampus?
A - Your MyCampus username is your student identification number (e.g. 100234567) and the initial password is your date of birth in the format MMDDYY. If you do not have a birth date on file, the password will be your postal code. You will have access to MyCampus after your registration is complete in early July.
Q - Is the Teaching Kindergarten class available after graduation?
A - No - the electives are available during the 9 weeks of classes.
Q - What are the due dates for tuition fees?
A - Please see "Current Students, Tuition Fees + Payment" on the Faculty of Education website at education.uoit.ca.
Q - Are there entrance scholarships available for students?
A - Please see "Future Students, Financial Matters, Scholarships" on the main page of the UOIT website for information on scholarships at UOIT.
Q - Is health/dental insurance mandatory?
A - Students may decline coverage for either or both plans (health/dental) by going to www.aclassociates.com/sadcuoit.htm and completing the online opt out form. You will be asked to provide the name of the insurance company, policy number and name of the person who has the plan.
