Salary Grid Rating
There are two separate organizations that determine where on the salary grid you will be paid. Which one you use depends on which union you will belong to. While you will eventually use the rating from only one of these organizations, it is strongly advised that during your BEd year you apply to obtain ratings from both. The application process is free during certain date ranges for teacher candidates and you never know which panel you will end up teaching in.

OSSTF - Ontario Secondary School Teacher's Federation
www.osstf.on.ca
If you teach in a public secondary school, you must have a Certification Rating Statement issued by the OSSTF.
The Certification Rating Statement, issued by the OSSTF, ensures that you will receive the correct level of salary for your qualifications. Your Certification Rating Statement will indicate whether you are in Group 1, 2, 3, or 4, Group 4 being the highest group. Without a Certification Rating Statement, the school board will pay a teacher at the lowest salary category.
The OSSTF Certification Department evaluates a teacher's academic and professional records according to the Regulations of the OSSTF Certification Plan and then issues a Certification Rating Statement.
Note: The OSSTF's Certification Charts are significantly different from the QECO charts and so even if you already have a QECO Certification Rating Statement, you will need to apply for one from the OSSTF.
During the Federation visit from OSSTF (held on Friday, January 19th, 2007 from 9:00am - 12:00pm. in TMEET 1000), application forms will be available and the representative will take completed applications directly to OSSTF. If you already have sealed transcripts from your post secondary schools, the representative will take those at this time as well. It is advisable to come with sealed transcripts from all your postsecondary schools to help expedite the process.
