Important Dates
Each school board maintains a unique hiring system for teacher vacancies. As a teacher candidate, it is
your responsibility to research and keep track of deadlines and procedures for all of the school boards to which you would like to apply.
Deadlines can start as early as
mid-January and typically
end by mid-February.
One school board who varies from this process is Durham District School Board (DDSB). DDSB advertises individual vacancies, typically starting in mid-May. Interested candidates submit their applications to individual principals to be reviewed at their discretion.
Private (or independent) schools can advertise any time in any number of places. If you're interested in job searching in this sector, you will need to search in a variety of places for leads.
It is important to determine a list of the boards to which you would like to apply and research their application procedures and most importantly, their deadlines. If the board website is not clear or if you have additional questions, do not hesitate to contact the Human Resources department of the school board.
Applications to school boards are
comprehensive and time-consuming. Catholic boards in particular require a pastoral reference form in addition to your regular application.
Be prepared to dedicate an appropriate amount of time to your application.
